Ahh, you gotta love IRC. Allow me to share a short edited snippet. IP addresses have been removed as well as some comments by people that are not really relevant to the conversation. The best part are the /whois results.
I'm not in any way upset about this. I think this is funny, and felt like sharing.

You shouldn't do that, the
You shouldn't do that, the kid had the potential to become a Drupal contributor and you killed the talent in less than 5 minutes ;-)
Agreeing with Farzan
I agree with Farzan . He replied to merlinofchaos question .
This is an IRC chat, not google.
[20:03] thats nice
[20:03] google doesnt have web experts
And the best way to answer him was with a link to some sites who thinks Drupal is good than Joomla and why.
Anyway it happened ...
Disagree
Kid needs to go read, especially for such a broad stroked question. If he doesn't have the due diligence to do some kind of research prior to asking questions, he'll probably end up asking a lot of other unnecessary questions. No one's going to have the time to answer such a question. And to start off with 'go f yourself' isn't a pleasant either.
"This is an IRC chat, not
"This is an IRC chat, not google" isn't terribly "pleasant" either. That's what I'd call condescension. No one likes being patronized... Especially when they know deep down the person patronizing has a valid point.
Seems to be a huge fault in the entire web development community that people of stature feel strongly that it's perfectly okay for THEM to make snarky comments, but when someone else makes one or gets upset, well, that's just unpleasant and unprofessional. Actually, wait, I guess that's a fault in human nature.
But for all you know the person had read articles and wanted to get a candid response from expert drupal developers. Wonder if he asked the Joomla IRC chat, too (assuming there is one), and how THEY responded?
SMS and atti-"dood"s
I agree that merlin's comment was terse and harsh, but kinesis launched a question in an experts forum is a popular format of SPAM seen in many chat channels. a "this vs that and y" is a common, and annoying, method to drive up chat messaging for the sake of causing a disturbance. It's like lighting a pack of firecrackers on a seniors BINGO night -> lots of chaos followed by strong opinions, and the perp is long gone. It's common to not introduce yourself, but just throw stuff out to the chatverse and see what happens.
On the other hand, if Kinesis is that kind of punk, it's prob best he/she went to another platform and chat.
I'm somewhat amused that most commenters felt that this person was a 'kid'.
