A couple of days ago I released an alpha version of Panels 2. There is still a lot to be done; I have a huge list of features I still need to work on, and of course I haven't written much documentation. And it's totally broken in Safari still. But aside from that, I think it's looking good.
This project has taught me a LOT about javascript. I'm no expert yet, but I'm starting to feel competent with javascript. I'm much more comfortable with the basic language constructs and moderately more comfortable with various bits of DOM manipulation.
This project also consistently takes longer than I want it to. Every time I think 'Hey I am close to done' I see big code paths that I still need to work on. Alas.
There's already been one major bug that's been identified: Some of the AJAX goodies don't work if your site isn't top level of the domain. I know how to fix it, and it'll be fixed in the next alpha release.
I would love to get someone who is really good at design to help me fix the look and feel. I'm pretty lousy at it. One comment I've gotten from Steven is that I'm using too many outlines, and I should use more subtle backgrounds instead. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Had a go at the CSS for edit>content
Just posted some edits to the panels_dnd.css to the issue que, as a starting point for a cleaner/clearer (I hope) look and feel for the UI. All feedback appreciated of course. Thanks!
