A few months ago, Dmitri made a post about how Views 2 needs development help. This post was very ill-timed; I wasn't in a position to tell people how to write the next bit, so it seemed like there were suddenly a horde of people that were willing to help, but they all needed handholding and specific tasks. That wasn't really available at the time. I needed to get Views 2 to a certain point before that could happen.
Then a strange thing happened.
I got Views 2 to that point. I created a task list. I posted about the task list.
Oddly, only 2 of the tasks have been picked up. What happened to that horde of people? Maybe I didn't publicize the list enough? That's certainly possible. Lots of people I know have been busy on Drupal 7 tasks (which grates on me somewhat. Not only have they moved on; I don't get to participate in the new stuff so I lose twice).
I'm not sure what's up. But I'd really like some of that promised help to actually show up.
And btw, thanks go to Ezra, Alpritt, Neclimdul, KarenS and Eaton for the patches that they've submitted! Most of these folks were already helping out before I posted the task list, though.

I wish I could help. I'm a developer myself and am new to drupal, but work obligations keep me from doing it. Well, keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.

PS Reading and sorting through other people's code is always a bear. Do you have any recommendations for reading material that have effective techniques for reading (and understanding) code that wasn't necessarily written by the reader?

It is worth an another front
It is worth an another front page promotion on drupal.org (here is the task list, please help, in short). Posting to d.o. is free. And posting twice about the same thing is perfectly acceptable in this case of course. For example, GHOP got several front page promotion.

This really needs to be elevated to a front page posting!
They're really getting ahead of themselves with Drupal 7 when D6 is still missing major components: Views & CCK. This also slows down the development of other modules, in part because some modules depend on Views/CCK, but also because many Drupal developers aren't trying out D6 until the release of Views/CCK, and therefore have no real incentive to port modules.
I really sympathize with Earl and the other Views developers here. More help is needed to come and polish off Drupal 6 first.

Yes, and Views 2 is more important currently than Drupal 7. This issue needs front page promotion right away.

Come on, get your priorities strait. Views 2 is important, yes. But more important than Drupal 7, given that Drupal 7 may actually contain some of Views in core? I think not.

The timing isn't looking real likely at this point. I am not going to bust my ass to get Views 2 into D7 core after I've busted my ass the last 3 months, with another month to go probably, just to get it ready.
